Best Easy Matcha Latte

matcha latte (2).jpg

Getting the perfect matcha latte recipe is near impossible. Some prefer the straight matcha taste because health. Others are convinced the only way they can ingest matcha is to add every sugar in existence (looking at you Starbucks).

I believe I’ve developed a good base recipe and Starbucks copycat recipe that will satisfy critics across the board.

Some notes for these recipes:

Quality of matcha matters. I found myself using expired matcha at one point and it was not great. Now I use Vital Proteins Matcha Peptides which has a great flavor profile.

I let you choose your own milk in the base recipe – a choose your own adventure. I think regular milk froths the best. Oat milk also froths pretty well, but it depends entirely on the brand. In my experience Chobani Oat Milk froths extremely well, while 365 Everyday Value brand barely froths at all.

To froth the milk, I use either my Magic Bullet blender or my immersion blender. Both of these options are lightyears better than the rinky dink frother I had, and serve more than one purpose. Above you see regular milk frothed in a Magic Bullet pretty well.

Base Recipe

1/8 cup Matcha Powder (I use Vital Proteins Matcha Powder)

1/4 cup boiling water

1/2 - 1 tsp honey (optional)

1/2 cup milk (any variety)

  1. Combine matcha powder and honey (if desired) in mug.

  2. Bring water to a boil. Use a wire whisk to hand whisk into mug. Hand whisking should be enough to loosen honey and get rid of any matcha clumps. Set aside.

  3. Warm milk (I use the microwave, nothing fancy). Froth using a small blender (Ninja/Magic Bullet) or immersion blender.

  4. Slowly pour frothed milk over tea mixture in mug. I don’t know latte art, but if you do, art it up. Enjoy!

Starbucks Copycat recipe

1/8 cup Matcha Powder (I use Vital Proteins Matcha Powder)

1/4 cup boiling water

1 tsp honey

1/2 cup Chobani Vanilla Oat Milk

  1. Follow same steps as base recipe. Enjoy!
