Taylor Swift’s Chai Tea Sugar Cookies
I don’t tell many people this… but I love Taylor Swift. My obsession is over a decade old. Teardrops On My Guitar came out when I was a freshman in high school and I’ve been a Swiftie ever since. There were times where I thought she lost me, but then she just pulls me right back in. Well queen Taylor has done it again. I have been LIVING in Folklore and Evermore. So to keep going in this world that the kids on tiktok are calling “cottagecore,” I decided to bake queen Taylor’s Chai Sugar Cookies.
If you’re not a Taylor fan, we need to have a serious talk. But these cookies are also giving me Bridgerton vibes. And if you don’t like Bridgerton, well I’m going to politely have to ask you to leave. Just kidding, good food unites everyone - even those with bad taste.
The cookie recipe is originally from The Pastry Queen. My fiancé preferred the cookies pre-frosting, when the cookies tasted more buttery sweet (pictured above), and I preferred with the frosting, which brought out some more spice. It’s pretty simple to make, so have fun and enjoy!
Taylor Swift’s Chai Tea Sugar Cookies
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup vegetable oil, such as canola or sunflower oil. I used almond oil.
1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus additional for sugaring tops
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract, or the seeds of 1 vanilla bean
1 Tazo Chai Tea Packet
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Frosting
1 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3 tablespoons milk or eggnog
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Beat the butter in a bowl and add in the vegetable oil. Add the granulated sugar, powdered sugar, egg and vanilla. Empty the contents of the chai tea package into the bowl as well.
Stir in the flour, baking soda and salt.
Freeze dough for 15 minutes. Roll into inch balls onto the cookie sheet and cook 12 minutes.
While cooking prepare the frosting. Mix powdered sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and milk. Once the cookies have cooled, drizzle the frosting onto the cookies.
Enjoy the most delicious tea based sugar cookie you’ve ever had!
